Ao community celebrates Moatsü |

Dimapur, May 1 (MExN): A day of festivities marked the celebration of the premier annual festival of the Ao community, Moatsü, on May 1. Organised by the Ongpangkong Senso Telongjem, Dimapur, at the Senden Riju in Purana Bazaar, the celebration was marked by various songs and dances showcasing the rich traditions of the Ao community, and which culminated in a grand feast. Home Minister Imkong L Imchen graced the celebration as the chief guest while DC Dimapur Maongwati Aier and MLA S I Jamir also attended as special guests.
Imchen, speaking as chief guest on the “most auspicious festival” of the Aos, said that the uniqueness of the Nagas as a people is showcased through the celebration of such traditional festivals. As such, he said, the state government is planning to celebrate every month all the traditional festivals of the various Nagas tribes of the state “to preserve our culture and identity”. He said that the contribution made by every individual combines into one collective action. Thus, he added, the Naga tribes must live in unity since everybody is equal and “nobody is either big or small”.
Also marking the occasion, the Aoyimti Students’ Union of Aoyimti village (2 1\2 mile) held a small but grand celebration at the village’s Children’s Park at which O Alem, DGP (Prisons), attended as the chief guest.
