ImageKohima (MExN): Setting a good trend to many, HSLC topper Vepilü Chüzho has justified the quality of dedication and sincerity that represent success in one’s life. Vepilü from Fernwood School in Kohima topped the first top 50 position securing 92.33 % in HSLC exam declared yesterday. Unbelievable but true! Talking to The Morung Express, Vepilü maintained that she studies for 15 to 16 hours daily, which is very rare among students. Her devotion and sincerity was clearly evident when she secured first division for 3 consecutive academic years (Class VII, VIII and IX). With her feat in the HSLC, Vepilü now stands to receive a prestigious gold medal from the Nagaland Board of School Education besides the Madras Telugu Academy Award and Mayangnokcha Awards for academic excellence.

16-year-old Vepilü, born to mother Vesopolü and father Pude Chüzho, hails from Thipuzu village under Phek district. Her father serves in the Nagaland Police, presently posted at South police station while her mother is a housewife. On being asked how she felt on her achievement, Vepilü had this to say. “I feel very happy. I want to thank the school managing director, principal, parent, church leaders and well-wishers for their immense support.” She attributed her success to principal Koko, headmistress Yuly and all teachers, parents, friends and relatives.

Desiring to become a doctor, Vepilü aspires to pursue higher education from Kohima Science College in Jotsoma. In a message to fellow students, Vepilü encouraged them to work hard from the beginning. She also encouraged them to keep working consistently throughout the year. “Be humble, pay attention to teachers, luck favors the prepared mind, fear God,” is what she shared for fellow students. She loves reading newspapers and magazines and voted Nagaland Post and Seventeen as her favourite newspaper and magazine respectively. “Where there is will there is way” is her favourite quote. On being queried what she would like to contribute most towards building a better and brighter Nagaland, Vepilü eloquently said that as times come by and given an opportunity, she wishes to focus on developmental and health issues. Besides her academic activities, she also loves singing, watching TV, reading the Bible and also helping her mother at home.

Her mother, Vesopolü, said she never imagined Vepilü would manage to figure in the top slot. Admitting that as both she and her husband are illiterate, the mother said they would have felt content with their daughter even if she merely cleared the HSLC. Yet, she was appreciative that with the help of teachers and also the support and prayer of church members, their daughter reached to such a position. She thanked God for bestowing blessings on her family and made them proud.
