International Naga Sepaktakraw players felicitated |

DIMAPUR JUN 9: Hopson Sumi and Viketoho Tsukru, the two Naga boys representing the Indian team at the World Sepaktakraw Championship
3rd Malaysia Cup 2009 held at Kualaterangganu (May 25-31) were felicitated by the Nagaland Sepaktakraw Association (NASTA) today at Café Destination, opposite Hotel Saramati.
The Indian team lead by Holshe Khrie-O as Indian coach clinched the 2nd runners’ up title at the Men Team Event in Category ‘B’ level after they lost to Indonesia, one of world’s hard crunch team in Sepaktakraw sport. The Indian team played in three categories- Team event, Regu event and Double event.
Female players from Nagaland Kezhaleu Pfukri and Puleno Neikha also represented the Indian women Sepaktakraw team, which lost in the quarter finals. However, this is the first time; the women team has participated in the International Sepaktakraw championship. The world championship featured 13 countries, where India stood 3rd under Category ‘B’.
V Hekali Zhimomi NASTA Patron could not make it to the felicitation programme due to other pressing engagements. Nungsang Aier President NASTA also spoke on the occasion. The NASTA also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for giving special attention to sports and its players. Coach Khrie-O also extended appreciation for financing the Nagaland team for the Malaysia World championship.
Meanwhile, coach Khrie- O informed that four players from Nagaland-two each in the men and women Indian team have been selected to participate in the ‘Kings Cup World Championship,’ regarded as the acme of Sepaktakraw championships to be held this July in Bangkok.
The four Naga Sepaktakraw players selected for the championship are Esther Viseyie Koso from Nagaland Police, Zashevoto pusa from SAI hostel, Netolu Medeo and Pungotolu Puro from State Sports Girls Hostel.
