KOHIMA, JUN 10: Reiterating its demands over the NPSC answer paper swapping scam, the Naga Students Federation (NSF) today served a further 20-day deadline to the State government to fulfil the Federation Charter of Demands with June 30 and rid the system of its rot. The ultimatum was submitted following a silent protest rally from the NSF office to the Chief Minister’s Office to show resentment of the government’s inaction and apparently pressurise the top notch people involved in the scandal to own moral responsibility. The NSF handed over the representation to Abei-o Kire, Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister and endorsed the previous representation given to the Chief Minister on March 26, 2009.

The representation or the Federation’s Charter of Demands called for institution of an ‘Independent Judiciary Inquiry Commission’ for total probe and that the report be made public within 40 days. It demanded termination of service of officials proven guilty and immediate ‘Total Revamping of NPSC, submitted and approved by the High Power Committee. While the NSF acknowledged the timely response by the Government, it said it was unconvincing as there was no mention of setting up of an independent judiciary inquiry committee. Along with its other demands, the Federation once again called on the responsible leaders to step down on moral grounds to ensure judicious dispensation of the present scandal. “The Federation senses some fishy things happening in this process as some sons and daughters of influential public leaders who are at the helm of affairs and high ranking government officials are also involved in the present scandal,” the representation jointly signed by the NSF president Mutsikhoyo Yhobu and general secretary O Wati Jamir stated. It expressed apprehension that unless an independent judicial inquiry committee was set up, the tempo of the investigation would only remain static and nothing would come out of the present initiative.

Listing lack of transparency as one of the major factors marring the functioning of the establishment, the Federation has reiterated its demand for revamping of the NPSC to ensure better transparency and accountability. Asserting that enough time has been given to the government to address the issue in befitting manner and demanding action before expiry of the ultimatum, the student body cautioned that failure would force it to resort to agitation. The NSF president, addressing today’s rally, said corruption has become the culture of NPSC but assured that the Federation would leave no stone unturned to expose the truth and appealed for cooperation from all to fight for a better future. Hundreds of students drawn from different schools and colleges marched up to the CM’s office holding banners and placards. It was, however, learnt that Chief Minister Rio and the Chief Secretary are presently out of station.
