Airtel launches “Journalists’ Card” |

Dimapur | June 11 : Bharti Airtel has launched “Journalists Card”, a prepaid complimentary start-up kit, for media persons at an exclusive function held at Highway 39 Go-Karting, Padum Pukhri on Thursday, June 11. “We have been serving various segments of the society like students and the defence forces with specific plans, we are now happy to announce a special customised exclusive product for the media fraternity in this region” announced Sudipto Chowdhury, Chief Operating Officer of Bharti Airtel Ltd at the launch.
A media customer does not need to pay any security deposit or activation charges to get the benefit of this plan. On activation, beneficiaries can get the benefit of Closed User Group calls at the rate of only 30 paise per minute. Recharge Voucher of any denomination will be applicable, it was informed.
“Beyond business”, Chowdhury said, Airtel is keenly involved in other social activities. Health, education, culture, sports and tourism are some of the major areas of concern, the promotion of which the company is actively involved in, he said. In this endeavour the company has instituted a scholarship scheme, the Bharti Airtel Scholarship Scheme, for needy students. The noble scheme, he said, has also been introduced in Nagaland. Two students of the School of Engineering Technology and Management, Dimapur, are already benefiting from it, Chowdhury informed. Imlitoshi Jamir and Habung Yami the first recipients of the scholarship thanked Airtel’s gesture in assisting them to pursue their dreams. Besides, it was informed Airtel is looking forward to the premiere festival of the state Hornbill Festival for 2009.
On the services provided by the company, the Airtel official said, in a short span of three and a half years it has covered with mobile telephony all but one district of the state. It has already covered 100% of the urban populace while 21% of the rural population are enjoying its coverage he informed. In the north east, he said, there are 3 million subscribers with 79 districts, 250 towns and 22000 villages covered. It is also employing 61,776 people, Chowdhury said.
Bharti Airtel has also launched a project called “Be a blood donor – Save lives”. Subscribers of Airtel and others can be members of this project, by registering through an ‘sms’ specifying their blood group, which are then stored in a database by the provider. Through this gesture, subscribers can save precious lives. Whenever there is an urgent requirement for a specific blood group, registered subscribers would receive a message from the company.
