A BCCI official gives some tips in Dimapur

KOHIMA, JUN 18: BCCI Game Development Manager, Standley Saldanha stated today that he was highly impressed by the talents shown by a few boys taking part in a cricket match in Dimapur yesterday, as well as in some matches played in Shillong earlier where the State team stoop runners-up. “I was really impressed by some talented boys, it was such that I even wanted to go myself to the ground to meet them,” said Saldhana, while addressing the Cricket Umpiring Training programme. He commented that there is a great hope and scope for the local boys to move ahead. Saldhana stated that the hurdles as mentioned by Abu Metha are going to be taken care of at this stage, though he did not specifically mention, but assured to discuss the matter. He also highlighted several guidelines for both the players and Umpires to improve the game into professional standard.

NCA general secretary V Abu Metha, in his welcome address stated that NCA has been affiliated by the Board in 2008, and since then Cricket has attained distinct improvement in the State. Against all odds NCA is growing by the day and even has performed well in the tournament held away from home, claimed Abu. He further mentioned that local players have amazing potential and right exposure to them would produce ‘own Dhoni and Tendulkar.’ Abu Metha urged the BCCI to give continuing support as Sports and games play an important role in building a Nation. The 3-Day Cricket Umpires Training Programme conducted by Board of Control of Cricket of India (BCCI) in collaboration with Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) got under way at Hotel Japfu, Kohima. Altogether 25 Umpires from different districts including Dimapur (4), Wokha (4), Mokokchung (3), Phek (2), Zunheboto (2), Longleng (6), Kohima (5), Peren (2) and Kiphire (1) has registered for participation. The inaugural programme was chaired by C Atha Angami, while vote of thanks was extended by Moses Khrumo. The resource persons of the programme are BCCI Game Development Manager, Standley Saldanha, V Kulkarni and Subroto Banerjee.
