DC Dimapur orders arrest of Excise, Police personnel |

DIMAPUR, JUN 24 (EMN): In what would be the first fallout of the clampdown on illegal taxation, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur today directed the Superintendent of Police, Dimapur and the law enforcing agency to arrest and prosecute the Police and Excise personnel who were detected collecting money at New Field Check Gate.
According to an official order received today, the District Administration following specific information on violation of the standing order banning collection of tax, had conducted a check and found Excise and Police personnel manning the New Field Check Gate from 5 pm to 6 pm on June 23 indulging in illegal collection of money.
DC Dimapur Maong Aier has directed the SP Dimapur to deal with the violators immediately so as to avoid breach of public peace and tranquility.
In another official order, DC Dimapur directed that the separate check post maintained by Excise Taxes and Transport department be closed down and, if necessary, the said Departments should function from the police check gate.
Stating that the present system is not serving the purpose, the DC has also ordered the Veterinary and AH to establish their Quarantine posts at the entry points into the state. The Deputy Commissioner further banned collections being carried out by the students unions and informed that the administration would take steps to stop such practice of collecting money/commission from traders of New Market and other such markets in Dimapur and criminal case will be registered against those indulging in these practices.
He also stated that prosecution needs to be strengthened to ensure that persons arrested for indulging in extortion are not released.
Moreover, according to the order, the manning of police check gates shall be done by State Police, Assam Rifles, CRPF on rotation, and the personnel manning the check post should have their names displayed while on duty.
The District Administration will monitor and do periodic checking and the departments concerned shall immediately suspend the staff concerned on receipt of the DC’s Report and start inquiry proceedings against the concerned erring personnel, the order read.
