'70%” of people living Below Poverty Line in Nagaland': BJP PDF Print E-mail
Dimapur, June 24 (MExN): The Nagaland unit of the BJP wants special incentives for the rural poor with the argument that Nagaland state has “70%” of its people living Below Poverty Line even after more than four decades of existence. The state BJP today addressed a letter to the Prime Minister of India seeking more special incentives. “Nagaland became the 16th state of India on the 1st of December 1963, but even after a gap of more than four and half decades the Below Poverty Line still remains 70%. Moreover, the special status granted to the state under Article 371 (A) have not done enough to the state and the people,” the BJP’s letter stated.

The party also made a number of ‘suggestions’. Nagaland being a special category state, she should be given due share “on time” by the central government “whichever government rules” in the state. Her due share must be given so that development can be at par with the other states, the Nagaland BJP asserted. The BJP unit further said rice at Rs.2 should be given to all BPL families and “at least” 35 kilograms every month per family. Likewise, a “minimum” 25,000 rural housing should be constructed every year at a “minimum expenditure of Rs.50,000 per house”, the BJP said. The unit also said agriculture loans should be waived and new loans be given at 4% interest to farmers.
