Kohima | June 25 : A week long State Level National Integration Camp (NIC) got underway here today at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, with an active participation from youths from Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Mizoram, Meghalaya and host Nagaland.
The inaugural function took place at Dimori Cove where K I Singh, Zonal Director for NYKS, Nagaland, told the gathering that the basic aim of these camps is to create nationwide opportunities for largest ever participation of youths, especially non-student rural youth of India irrespective of their caste, creed, family background, sex, language, region, religion, custom, culture and tradition.
During these NICs (National Integration Camps), Singh said, “the youth will come together, live together, discuss and debate together and develop a common prospective and national outlook towards strengthening our age old common heritage, i.e., Sanjhi Virasat.” Our attempt will be on inculcation of secular and scientific values amongst the youths and promote sadbhavna and peace in the country without which all progress and development becomes meaningless, he said.
The participants will have the quality opportunity to live, interact and learn together in an environment of mutual love and respect for one’s distinct social and cultural identity. They will be able to understand and appreciate merits of people living in different parts of the country, which signifies the ‘unity in diversity’ aspect of India.
“The young participants will be able to know about the age-old common heritage and history, which strengthen our secular and democratic fibre for building most modern, progressive and scientific nation of the world,” Singh said adding that they will also be able to identify the threats and challenges posed by divisive forces in the country towards development of harmony, sadbhavna and peace in the country.
The young participants will also be able to work and contribute for the national development with particular reference to their citizenship role and service to the nation during national emergencies such as communal riots, terrorist attacks and relief and rehabilitation activities and disaster preparedness as well.
He also stated that proposed 28th National Integration Camps to be organised at the state level are thus means to express “our national solidarity and achieve the goal of national unity.” He also asserted that youth symbolises the most dynamic and vibrant energy of human society, adding they possess enormous mental and physical strength and have the potential and the right vision for development of the country.
