DIMAPUR, DEC 22: With a view to better monitor internal security, the district administration, police and DMC have decided to ask all major shopping centres in Dimapur to install Close Circuit TVs. A circular issued by the District Commissioner said the decision was taken after a consultative meeting on the security scenario in the city.

Accordingly, the DC has directed commercial centres such as Orchid, Jack N Jill, Central Plaza, Vishal Mart, Shangrilla Welfare Organisation, New Market Welfare Association, Hong Kong Tibetan Welfare Association and Mall 99 to comply with the order to avoid untoward incidents in the city. Commenting on the feasibility of the measure, SP Dimapur, when contacted, was of the view that installation of CCTVs could deter anti-social elements and minimise problems faced by the business community. It will go a long way in restricting free movement of ultras in the shops and control elements from undesirable activities in and around the shops, he said.

The SP further informed that the matter has also been taken up with the Railway authorities for the installation of the same at the earliest. With the Railway station remaining a vulnerable point, the authorities have agreed to comply with the request, he added. The order served to the major shopping malls around the city on an experimental basis is expected to be followed up at a later stage.
