Dimapur, August 27 (MExN): With more and more people opting for banking facilities in the state, the State Bank of India (SBI) today opened its first internet banking (also referred to as e-banking) centre in the state in Dimapur. The bank, which has seen rapid growth since its inception in the state in 1963, now has 49 branches across the state all quipped with core banking facility. The opening of the e-banking centre is another milestone for the bank.
Applauding the opening of the e-banking centre, the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Maongwati Aier, called the SBI “the father of banks in India”. Even as the state is marching forward from the old marketing and banking system to new ones, the DC said the e-banking system is a great innovation in the banking sector. Aier appreciated the contributions of the bank to the people of the state over the decades, and hoped that the SBI would also contribute in lifting the economy of the state through the government’s Look- East Policy.
Also present at the opening, Superintendent of Police Liremo Lotha wished the e-banking centre will benefit the people of the state. He said Nagas have trust in the SBI and the new facility will boost ties.
The e-banking centre was inaugurated by the General Manager of Network II, RN Mehra. The new centre is located close to the SBI main branch and is installed with three ATMs and one e-banking machine. The centre is only the third in the entire region of the North East.
