MOKOKCHUNG, SEPT 3 (EMN): In another major breakthrough in the clearly thriving trade of stolen vehicles in the State, Mokokchung police today nabbed two ‘drivers’
as they were en-route to Dimapur with two stolen cars via Mariani road. This in turn has led to the revelation of some key information on the racket.
OC K Yapang Ao, on being informed by reliable sources of the entry of the suspected vehicles at Tzüdapela Nagaland Gate, informed his unit whereby a Mokokchung Police team led by SDPO sprang into action and rushed towards Mariani. The two accused were nabbed red-handed at an area in between Changki Village and Longnak as they were changing the Assam registration numbers to Nagaland numbers.
The two have been identified as Tsuktimenba of Molungkimong Village and Bendangtemsu of Asangma Village.
On interrogation, Tsuktimenba revealed that he has been regularly hired as a driver and has already driven 10 stolen cars through this route. He reportedly gets paid Rs 4000 for every car that reaches Dimapur safely. Bendangtemsu, on the other hand, was a first timer and had been recruited by Tsuktimenba.
Police said the two accused, on further interrogation, named one V Inato Sumi of Dimapur as the main dealer. Inato has also been arrested after the Dimapur police were informed by Mokokchung police.
Inato is reported to have stated that the stolen vehicles had been shipped from Kolkota by one Sunil. The vehicles were then received in Guwahati by one Feroz after which the two drivers had picked them up and were transporting them to Inato in Dimapur.
Inato also reportedly revealed that he was earlier associated with Kiyito Sema, the kingpin in the fake vehicle documents racket busted by Dimapur Police. One Vikishi has also been named as the person who prepares the fake registration documents.
Inato confessed that he receives 15-20 percent from the sales proceeds.
OC Yapang said the other persons named are yet to be arrested. He also informed that Inato’s confession includes very valuable details which would help in nabbing the big fish involved in the racket not only in Nagaland but perhaps in the entire country.
Meanwhile, it was informed that Mokokchung police has to date intercepted around 7 stolen vehicles which have been produced in court. One recovered car was found to be stolen from Delhi and reply is being awaited from Delhi police, OC said.
