NSCN (I-M) to stay away from Naga Platform PDF Print E-mail
Dimapur, Sept 6 (NPN): Stating its position vis-à-vis the Naga Common Platform, the NSCN (I-M) in a release issued through its Ministry of Information and Publicity expressed strong skepticism on the proposal and its objective and therefore, has decided “to stay away from it”. Also sending a strong message to the Naga Hoho , the NSCN(I-M) said “the association of Naga Hoho with the ongoing Naga Common Platform and its objective is also viewed with serious concern by the NSCN/GPRN. And the credibility social organization like Naga Hoho is at stake.”

Stating that every Naga has a concern for “an honourable political settlement with India and Burma” with each having a different role to play in whatever profession “in our struggle for political liberation” , it said the problem arose when people of different professions choose to play another role. It pointed to the role of the Naga People’s Convention (NPC) in 1960, when the body “stepped out of its way and signed the 16-Point Agreement with India” and which “opened a new chapter of discord and bloodshed among the Nagas”. The NSCN(I-M) asserted that “Nagas are undivided and unequivocal in our stand for the national liberation,” and no settlement with either India or Burma would be made at the cost of the Naga national principle lest it triggered “more bloodshed in our land.”

It also mentioned the 1975 Shillong Accord, wherein representatives of the Federal Government of Nagaland accepted the Indian constitution and surrendered all arms “brought at the cost of great human suffering and loss of lives.” It said people’s aspiration was betrayed resulting in “a vertical split” in the Naga national movement and “ bloody confrontations.” In the light of the Naga Ccommon Platform, the NSCN(I-M) affirmed that past experiences showed that Nagas “shall never surrender their birth right at the feet of any nation and no vested interest shall be allowed to make a mess in the Naga national issue.”
