Kisama, Sept 6(MExN) : The picturesque Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, a permanent site for the annual Hornbill Festival of Nagaland is all set to get a new look with various tribes undertaking major renovation work of their respective Morungs with the fund provided by the State’s tourism department. Sources said that Rs. 5 lakh has been set aside for each tribe for the said purpose. The Angamis have reportedly completed their assignment while Chakhesang, Sema, Pochury, Phom, Kachari etc are undertaking the renovation work on full swing.

It is learnt that some communities are constructing standard Morungs in which the expenditure is likely to go up above the budget provision of Rs. 5 lakhs. In such cases, the rest of the expenditure involved in the construction is to be borne by them. The Phom community was estimating their budget at around Rs 25 lakhs while the Sumi community also estimates that their work will cost approximately 15 lakhs. The tribal bodies are taking up the renovation works maintaining the structure of Morungs in a permanent form and thatch is to be replaced annually. Better footpaths and drainage system were also put forth by all the communities. It is pertinent to mention that the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland, usually slated for seven days (December 1-7), is an annual affair of the state government to promote tourism industry and to showcase the rich culture and tradition of Nagas.
