Dimapur, Sept 7 (MExN): The government of India has introduced an incentive for girl students, under the banner ‘centrally-sponsored national scheme of incentives to girls for secondary education.’ The scheme provides for Rs. 3,000 to be deposited in the name of each eligible girl and she would be entitled to withdraw it on reaching the age of 18. A circular from the School Education director Nipusilie Angami today said the scheme covers all SC/ST girls who pass class-VIII and enroll in class –IX in state government, government-aided or local body school during 2009; girl students who have not completed 16 years of age as on March 31, 2009 according to her Cumulative Records and Schooling History (CR&SH).

The department said that married girl students and students who have completed 16 years of age as specified above and studying in private unaided and school runs by central government are not eligible. “In accordance with the admissibility norm all principals of government higher secondary schools and headmaster of government high schools in the state are hereby requested to furnish lists of girls who are studying in Class 9 during the academic session of 2009 who fulfills the criteria as above to the directorate of School Education on or before 15th September 2009 with soft copy in MS Excel sheet” the circular stated.
