Nigerian scamsters arrested in Dimapur PDF Print E-mail
ImageDIMAPUR, JAN 10 (EMN): After 2005 when the ‘Nigerian scam’ reared its nefarious head in the State victimising many locals, Dimapur cops have once again achieved a breakthrough arresting four persons of Nigerian nationality, on charges of duping one K Moaba Janger of over Rs 13 lakh.

Dimapur police on Sunday paraded before the local media four Nigerian nationals arrested from New Delhi, in connection with an SMS lottery scam. On September 17, 2009, one Moaba Janger had received an sms from one Peter Anderson that he had won 1 million Pound. Elated with the news, Janger responded to the sender through mail and was asked to follow various instructions and pay different fees for certification and clearance to get the winning amount. However, after paying Rs. 13,96,550, he realized that he has been duped and lodged a complaint with SP Dimapur. According to police, the ‘operators’ asked Moaba to deposit Rs 35000 as clearance tax and consignment fee, followed by Rs 1 lakh for clearance of anti-terrorism certificate, Rs 2 lakhs for obtaining certificate of authority to remit the amount to Reserve Bank of India, Rs 4,61,550 for International and local tax and anti-drug certificate, Rs 1.5 lakh, Rs 2.5 lakh and finally Rs 2 lakhs for international/local tax and anti drug certificate.

During investigation, police verified the accounts and traced them to New Delhi, belonging to Karan Motors, Ankit Plaza, New Delhi. A special police team I/O, G Tungnung left for New Delhi in September and on September 29, Karan Singh and Ish Ahmed were arrested from different places with the help of Delhi Police and were brought to Dimapur. During interrogation, the two accused revelaed more names leading to the arrest of 4 Nigerian Nationals from New Delhi, identified as Sylvester Jackson Aigboboh (29), Ukato Young Ben (28), Prince Ucheno Chibuzor (26) and Odibo E Aha Bua (34). They all have their present address in Chattarpur Enclave, New Delhi. Aigboboh are Ben from Edo state, Nigeria while Chibuzur and Bua are from Logos and Undo states of the country.
