5 arrested in NREGA fund robbery case |

DIMAPUR, JAN 12 (EMN): In a major break through, Wokha Police, after two months of vigorous investigation have arrested the three culprits and two accomplices involved in the November 4 robbery incident of NGRGA funds amounting to 24 lakhs.
The money which was meant for job card holders of NREGA of Pangti village was reportedly looted from the possession of NREGA secretary, Pangti village, Renchamo by 3 miscreants in a Maruti Van at Wokoru Tongti, one km before Pangti while the victim was coming to Pangti from Wokha district in a Tata Sumo after drawing the cash from Baroda Bank.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror over phone, OC Wepretso Chakhesang Sungro Police Station informed the three accused were arrested early Tuesday morning from Mokokchung town and Mangmetong village.
The three accused are Moayanger (aged 34), s/o Takatemjen of Changki village, Moamanen (aged 45), s/o Tekatemjen of Mangmetong village and Mayangtemsu Jamir, s/o Lt Sakumongba of Changki village.
The police also recovered one .9 mm country made pistol from the possession of Moamanen along with 5 live rounds and 11 empty cases.
Following confessions of the three accused, OC Wepretso said, the Police have also taken into custody two informers from Pangti village namely Limomo Shitio (aged 33), a chowikidar in the Irrigation and Flood Control department and Yanbemo Shitio, a Field Assistant of the same department.
Additional SP of Wokha district CJ Kinghen who is also the chairman of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to investigate into the robbery case, said the identities of the accused became definite after tracking down their call details. The calls were reportedly made a prominent citizen in Mokokchung.
Police cleared the prominent citizen of any involvement in the crime but but refused to divulge the name.
It may be mentioned that NREGA secretary has also been kept under judicial custody since the incident on November 4. With the arrest of the three accused, police said further investigation is in progress in this matter.
The case was filed under section 392/365 IPC, R/W-27 under Clause 2 of the Arms Act under Sungro Police station.
