Colourful start to Phek Road Show |

PHEK, JAN 14: The much hyped State Road Show of the year-cum-Sükrünye festival of the Chakhesang Naga tribe got off to an impressive start with over 50
government departments as well as various NGOs putting up stalls at Phek local ground this afternoon thereby bringing together progress and culture.
One of the special attractions of this road show, which is the eighth show of the government held under the synthesis “Where Progress Meets Culture”, is the fully black topped roads and well constructed drainage system within Phek town as well as the ongoing black topping of roads from National Highway 161 to Phek town.
The government departments have put up stalls to attract and create awareness about the numerous facilities, developmental programmes and schemes of the government for the uplift of the general public, specially the rural folks.
An added effort is being made to highlight the rich biodiversity with exhibition of medicinal plants and fruits with specifications of altitude and habitat, as Phek is the ‘biodiversity hotspot of the State.
Earlier, speaking as the chief host of the introductory session, Minister for Health & Family Welfare Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu urged upon the general public to come forward the know about the various facilities provided by the government.
Maintaining that there has been a lot of criticism and controversies over the State Road Shows, he justified that the road show is a major programme of the state government organized with a view to creating awareness amongst the public about the benefits of numerous government departments for their uplift. “This is an opportunity to promote government schemes and policies which are actually meant for the general public and also to enhance their knowledge about government departments,” he said.
The Thai Cultural Troupe has added attraction to the show with their cultural dances. Cultural troupe from Phusachodu village presented indigenous tune during the programme.
The introductory session was chaired by Secretary, Social Welfare, Neihu C. Thur while Phek Deputy Commissioner Mikha Lomi tendered the welcome address.
In the evening, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, Neiba Kronu graced the Open Air Beat Contest as the chief guest.
MLA from Assam B Kumar, Parliamentary Secretary for Social Welfare Chotisuh Sazo, Adviser & MLA, Deo Nukhu along with a host of bureaucrats and officials graced the introductory session.
Governor Nikhil Kumar and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will grace the inaugural function of the two-day event on Friday as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
