Police rescue 2 more abducted traders |

DIMAPUR, FEB 25 (EMN): Two Dimapur businessmen abducted for ransom were rescued on February 19 last, police said today. Briefing news persons on the cases, police said the two
victims had been picked up on February 15 and 18 respectively from separate locations in Dimapur following which ransom calls amounting to Rs 1 crore and Rs 10 lakhs were made to the families.
The victim picked up on February 15 by three miscreants is reportedly an employee at a hardware store. Police said, under pressure after the ransom demand was made, the victim was released by the abductors after four days without any cash changing hands. While no arrest has been made till date, police expressed confidence that all three accused would be arrested in a few days time. We have already established their identities, they added.
In the other incident, an employee of a certain gas station was picked up while on his way to have lunch in the afternoon of February 18 and taken to an undisclosed location along with his bike.
However, acting on a tip off, police deployed in civvies as proactive measure paid off with the arrest of one accused, identified as Daniel Swu, before the ransom money could be handed over by the family at Purana Bazaar.
Sensing the presence of police, the accused tried to make good his escape on foot. He was, however, given a hot chase and subsequently apprehended, police officials informed.
Following the arrest and interrogation, a raid was carried out in Kuhuboto area wherein the victim was reportedly being kept. Forced to flee, the abductors left the victim at the location unharmed from where he was rescued, police said.
The personal belongings of the victim, bike and mobile handsets, were also recovered and handed over on February 22.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that investigations have established the involvement of three cadres belonging to a certain faction. While arrests are yet to be made, police said high-ranking officials of the concerned faction have clarified that the abduction had been carried out by the individuals on their own without the knowledge of the authority.
