Dimapur, February 25 (MExN): A farewell programme for outgoing councillors of the Dimapur Municipal Council was organised on February 24 by the administrative staff of DMC. The outgoing councillors had relinquished office following the dissolving of the house on February 21 last.
In a small function organised at the office, the DMC staff wished the outgoing members great success as they continued to serve the people. Their good works for the public and contribution towards the DMC will be cherished, stated a press release from the DMC.
The staff members also made an appeal to the former members to remember and support the DMC in the days to come “in order to give better service to the people”. Nikhashe Sema, CEO of DMC, and Ganesh Sharma, a senior staff member, spoke on behalf of the DMC staff. In his parting speech, former member Thunchanthung Lotha thanked the staff for their cooperation towards the members. Stating that the councillors have become a part of DMC family, he said that former members would always render their cooperation towards the DMC. Lotha further appealed to the staff not to neglect their duties.
Former chairperson Khekaho Assumi assured that the former councillors would never forget the Dimapur Municipal Council that had given them a political platform. He acknowledged the staffers for having been “very cooperative with all the councillors” and for making sacrifices in “taking all the troubles in the process of development”. Assumi was also hopeful that the new CEO, Nikhashe, would take the DMC forward from where the outgoing councillors had left.
All members were each presented with a bouquet and a pen as souvenirs. However, the release added, to the dismay of DMC staff, many of the councillors did not attend the function. Former chairperson Tovihoto Ayemi was present at the function, it was informed.
