Dimapur, February 27 (MExN): Entering 175 years of glorious service to the country, the Assam Rifles today organized a glistering attestation parade at the Assam rifles Training Centre and School at Sokhovi near Dimapur. Union Home Secretary GK Pillai reviewed the parade witnessed by a large gathering including parents and guardians of fresh recruits. The Reviewing Officer presented medals to six passing out recruits for their outstanding performance during training. Pillai exhorted the Assam Rifles for its selfless service to the country for 175 years. He highlighted the achievements of the oldest paramilitary force in the country; for its diverse role ranging from security, welfare and development assistance to the civil population in the country, particularly in the North East. “The North East is a strategic area and its security is of paramount importance…the Assam Rifles is playing a stellar role in this regard,” Pillai said. He complimented DGAR Lt. General Karan Singh Yadava for leading the force to its present stature, Brigadier Devraj Anbu, Commandant ARTC & S and his team of dedicated staff for imparting value based training to the recruits. The Union Home Secretary said that keeping in view the good works done by the Assam Rifles in the past, the government has decided to send a contingent as part of a ‘Formed Police Unit’ to Haiti under the aegis of the United Nations. The parade was followed by performances by Para gliders and the ‘Shwet Ashw’ Dispatched Riders, performing daredevil stunts on motorbikes. Among others the attestation parade was attended by Lt. General (Retd) Mandata Singh, Lt. General NK Singh and CJ Ponraj, IAS, Home Secretary of Nagaland.
