59 original-settler Jain families in Dimapur PDF Print E-mail
Dimapur, March 9 (MExN): People of certain communities who had settled in Nagaland much after December 1, 1963 have been ‘ignoring’ the permanent indigenous inhabitants. To hinder this “mischief,” the Dimapur district administration today issued a list of 59 Digamber Jain families indigenous to the state. These 59 Digamber Jain families have had permanently settled in the state prior to December 1, 1963 or that their names are in the electoral roll published on December 5, 1963.

The Dimapur administration issued a reiterated of the government’s order of August 5 and November 16 of 2009 pointing to the order of April 28, 1977. The state government’s order had set the requisites that to qualify as Non-Naga Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagaland one should have settled permanently in Nagaland prior to December 1, 1963 or their names should appear in the Electoral Roll published on December 5, 1963. The government has observed that people coming into Nagaland much after December 1, 1963 “in their zeal for quick results” often “ignore” the permanent indigenous inhabitants. To deter the “mischief” the government has listed the names of 59 heads of Digamber Jain families who have had either permanently settled in Nagaland prior to December 1, 1963 or the names of their elders appear in the Electoral Roll published on December 5, 1963. “Any family from this community feeling aggrieved for not including their names in this list may file objections within 30 days from the date of issue of this Notification for verification and further action,” the administration stated.
