137 Naga lads get opportunity to work in Abu Dhabi PDF Print E-mail
DIMAPUR, MARCH 16 (MExN): There is nothing unusual about witnessing young, under training, recruits within the confines of the Nagaland Police Armed Police Training Centre or NAPTC based in Chumukedima, Dimapur. The recruits after training normally go on to join the different units of the NAP. On Tuesday, a group of 137 young Naga lads began a month long orientation course at the premiere training centre of the state police force, only this time for a different purpose. This particular group of people was selected by the department of Employment & Craftsmen Training, Nagaland under the ‘Capacity Building Programme’ in collaboration with Seoul based ‘CONA International, Ltd’ in August last year. The youths will to be sent to Abu Dhabi, UAE where they will be employed as construction workers for a two-year period. The objective of the training is to get the trainees get accustomed to a daily routine of activities and introducing them to various subject matters which will prepare them to adapt in new a new environment.

The orientation course formally began on Tuesday, March 16 with the commandant NAPTC, LB Lemtur declaring it open. CONA International were represented by Chris Min, manager of its Dimapur office located at AIKO Building, Nagarjan Junction and Byong Ho Lee, a Korean language instructor who is also involved in mission activities of the company. NAPTC commandant, Lemtur dubbed the course as “path breaking” stating Nagaland Police has never taken up anything like this in the history of the force. NAPTC is in no way associated with the programme except that the centre has been assigned the task of “preparing the trainees to meet any future exigencies” within the given one month period, as Lemtur stated. Cautioning the trainees from going astray during the course, Lemtur said that they will have the liberty of dropping anyone found lagging in discipline or underperforming. “It is big responsibility” said the commandant to the trainees for there performance will open up avenues for others coming after them. Chris Min hoped that this kind of “employment and placement opportunity” will solve the problem unemployment in Nagaland and stated “it will be an eye opener for Naga youths helping them widen their horizon”. Min said that CONA International which is involvd in mission works, agro-processing, energy, tourism and manpower development started its branch office in Nagaland in 2008. “This is the first time CONA International is organising this kind of programme wit the help of the government of Nagaland”, Min said. During the course the trainees will be imparted basics on Korean language, health, English, personal etiquettes and an introduction to Abu Dhabi. “We hope that you will enjoy learning here and cooperate with the trainers”, Min said to the trainees.

Deputy Director of Employment & Craftsmen Training, Vandanshan Patton said that a total of 150 youths between the age group of 18 to 30 were selected under the programme. Out of which 137 turned up. Patton disclosed that the state government had sanctioned Rs 1.5 crores for the programme. The amount will take care of the visas, travel, accommodation and other expenses of the trainees, he said. The trainees when they successfully complete the orientation course, and get to Abu Dhabi will earn about 200 dollars per month, roughly Rs 9000. CONA International, after the trainees complete the course, will place them in South Korean construction companies involved in such work in Abu Dhabi, as construction workers. It is not the end of the road after the completion of the two year working period for Patton said that the working contract in Abu Dhabi can be extended provided the trainees are interested.
