Dimapur's jumping bean attracting music artists PDF Print E-mail
Dimapur, May 13 (MExN): Since its inception in 2008, Dimapur’s music hangout Jumping Bean has been waging a small revolution of sorts and has without doubt emerged high on the attention list: the café’s thematic musical nights and events, bands from the North East and India and a commitment sees at least two major gigs in very 3 months (discounting the routine musical performances). But’s that will be an altogether different story from May 14, Friday. Jumping Bean is readying for a new leap: Come May 14, Friday, Jumping Bean will be the stage for new independent record label Unicornis Movement to launch the first band on the label’s rack. Unicornis Movement (UM) Pro Records is touted to be North-East India’s first independent record label and the first launch from its stable would be a band D’Luzion.

D’Luzion is touted to be an alternative “experimental” rock band from Guwahati in Assam. The band’s self-titled offering consists of track including one with Mizoram’s rap artiste Michael M Sailo. Jumping Bean informed that Dimapur is a corresponding a schedule for UM Pro Records. A multi-city launch in Guwahati, Mumbai and New Delhi is in the schedule from May 18, 2010 at a cafe, ironically, called Brown Bean Café. The launch at Jumping Bean will see a hard rock band from Sikkim, Girish and The Chronicles and Nagaland’s Best B4 24 months as support for D’Luzion’s lunch. The label is expected to announce its business plans at a press conference on May 14, 2010 at 5.00 pm, Jumping Bean Café. The guest of honour for the event will be MLA and Advisor to Music Task Force Dr. Nicky Kire. The Music Task Force is a government initiative emphasizing on promoting music and musicians from Nagaland. A statement from the organizers said: “Jumping Bean Café, a hub for music lovers located in Dimapur, said that it is glad to be associated with UM Pro Records in helping promote bands especially from Nagaland by providing a platform for them to perform with the signed bands of the label.” Through this event, Jumping Bean said, the cafe hopes to help bands expose their performances and skills to a bigger audience and make music “a profession and not just a hobby.”

Jumping Bean is easily the most conspicuous café for music “hubbers” and the “foodie” in Dimapur. Since its inception in the winter of 2008, the cafe has been hosting major musical events and musicians – part of the menu actually. “The café not only provides a platform for professional musicians and bands but also opens its doors to amateur or upcoming artists that want to get more recognition. The genre of music played in the café is unlimited and varies from jazz/blues to heavy metal/rock or reggae/hip-,” the café assures – not that the average Dimapur café hopper has yet to know! For the Manga and comic freak, the café has added a Comic/Anime DVD section. Meet Asterik and Obelix and of course, Nauruto there, too. Be there!
