Rain falls, Dimapur goes under PDF Print E-mail
DIMAPUR, JUN 18(EMN): Torrential rain on Friday flooded hundred of homes at several places in Dimapur forcing a number of families to evacuate their homes. The worst affected areas were West Yard, Railway Bazaar Colony and low lying areas near New Dhansiri Bridge. Since the heavy rains on Thursday, most of West-Yard and Railway Bazaar Colony had already been flooded and today’s downpour practically forced most of the families out of their homes to higher ground as the water level rose to over three feet. Businesses, especially on GS Road, were also greatly affected as water level rose to more than two feet on Friday, flooding shops and ruining much of their merchandise. “We are forced to face the same situation every monsoon because there is either no clear drainage by the roadside or the existing drains are all clogged up,” a shopkeeper lamented.

And this is the same situation leading to inundation everywhere in Dimapur. Heavy water logging in many parts of the town also hampered the flow of traffic movement. Road stretches on GS, Tata Parking, Midland and Deluxe Point were seen severely flooded as a result of clogged drains after Thursday’s rain. Lack of proper drainage that allows the water to flow out is a major factor that causes huge problems for the denizens of the commercial hub during rainy season every year.
