| Govt issues directives on Avian flu |

Nagaland Post Dimapur, Dec 26: State Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry has once again directed the (District Veterinary Officers) DVOs of all the 11 districts to initiate active surveillance for immediate response to unusual sickness/high mortality in poultry and wild birds within 24 hours of its occurrence or report. Director Vety & AH, Dr. Yisao in a press release asked the DVOs to immediately report to the higher authority and collect samples as per the guidelines of action plan, in case of suspected attacks of avian influenza. Such samples would be forwarded to High Security Disease Laboratory (HSADL), Bhopal immediately for confirmation of the disease. The veterinary department also asked all DVOs to request the DCs for imposing inter-district movement of poultry and its products till the import of poultry ban from Assam is lifted. It has been made mandatory for veterinary doctors to regularly visit high density poultry units especially in border areas where surveillance of both poultry and migratory birds are to be done. The DVOs have been directed to randomly collect samples every month on regular basis both from commercial and backyard poultry farms for early detection of the disease even if there was no such reported sickness. The DVOs have further been asked to collect 20 serum samples every month from their respective districts and submit the same to ELISA Laboratory, Kohima on or before 5th of every month for onward submission to the North Eastern Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, department of animal husbandry and veterinary, Guwahati. |
