DIMAPUR, JUNE 30 (MExN): The Narcotics Cell of the Excise, Dimapur caught 650 kilograms of illicit Ganja from a truck (NL 01 D 5541), Wednesday, June 30 at around 3:30 am. The truck with the contraband was destined for Guwahati and intercepted at the Naharbari junction near Hollotoli School, Dimapur.
Two occupants, the driver and the handyman were arrested. They were identified as one Prakash Patel (38 years) of UP and a Sanjay Yadav (32 years) from Bihar. The actual origin of the consignment is yet to be known however, the detained told interrogators that they had uploaded the shipment somewhere between Diphupar and Chumukedima, mostly probably from the 5th Mile area.
According to the Excise they had been receiving inputs of ‘schemed vehicles’ (vehicles with secret chambers specially designed to carry smuggled goods) traversing Dimapur for the past one month or so. The breakthrough came when reliable intelligence report from sources about a possible “transaction” of ‘Ganja’ in Dimapur was to take place shortly in Dimapur. Excise personnel estimated that the contraband is worth around Rs 16 lakhs in the black market. In Bihar the illegal grass is said to be selling at Rs 2500 per kilo.
This is the second biggest seizure of ‘Ganja’ this year for the Narcotics Cell after the record haul in January last when 2002 kilograms was detected from a Manipur oil-tanker.
