KOHIMA (NPN):President of India, Pratiba Patil, who is on a two-day visit to Nagaland after assuming the office in July, 25, 2007, would arrive Kohima Wednesday.
Hectic preparations are on to give a befitting reception to the President of India. It was learnt that President on her arrival would be accorded a “Ceremonial Guard of Honour” by the 15th IRB (Mahila Battalion), the first ever only women armed force battalion at the helipad, a senior officer from central government agency informed on condition of anonymity.
Patil after a night halt at Raj Bhavan and public reception at Naga Heritage village, Kisama the next day, is scheduled to leave for Imphal.
On her arrival, state chief minister and governor are likely to call on the President on March 9 evening, followed by a cultural programme and dinner at Raj Bhavan.
She would also have a 20-minute interaction with civil societies and NGOs next morning (March 10) and proceed to Naga Heritage village, Kisama where she would be accorded a public reception before her departure for Imphal.
It was also learnt that the president’s secretariat had scheduled a separate appointment with NUTA against the backdrop of the prevailing atmosphere at Nagaland University.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that several organizations are likely to meet the President to submit various memoranda.
However, with the meeting time limited to 20 minutes as against the state government earlier proposal for one hour, the organizations are not likely to get have time to interact with the president.
Meanwhile, the government has invited all officials, public leaders, NGOs and the public to attend the public reception at Kisama.
Public transportation would be available at NST Station, Kohima at 7:30 a.m. on March 10.
SAPO appeals
Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) Tuesday appealed to all the people to accord warm welcome to the President of India during her maiden visit to Naga Heritage Village March 10.
While urging all its members to attend the official public reception, the SAPO also cautioned that anybody found creating nuisance or unacceptable act during president visit would not be tolerated, and that necessary action would be initiated.
ENPO to participate
Despite the decision taken on March 5, by Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Kohima (ENPUK) to abstain from participating in the proposed visit of President of India to Kohima, the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) today decided to participate after obtaining clarification from various sources.
In connection with this, the ENPO president Y. Mangko in a statement has requested the ENPUK to “kindly” initiate the matter.
