Child scientist Sanjana
Nagaland Post
Dimapur, Dec 29: An innovative idea by child scientist Sanjana from Maharastra received acclamation from evaluators including teachers and students from other states, on showcasing her project ‘Fuel Cell Vehicle’ (FVC), a vehicle that runs on hydrogen generated from sewages. Speaking about the workability of the project at the ongoing 16th National Children Science Congress (NCSC) at Living Stone Foundation Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, Sanjana explained that FVC could generate electricity by chemical reactions between hydrogen and oxygen, where the electric motor would rotate with the help of electricity.

Asked on how the vehicle could be refueled and what type of fuel could used, she said fuels such as hydrogen, methanol and gasoline could be used and also fuel for cell vehicles from hydrogen gas stations which is yet to be introduced.

Sanjana also explained that high pressure hydrogen tank and liquid hydrogen tank is used to make the car run. Some of the features of FVC include zero or near zero emission of harmful exhaust gas. FVC emits only steam which used for running; hence it does not discharge carbon dioxide (CO2), Nitrogen oxide (NOx), hydro carbon (HC), carbon dioxide (CO2) or particulate matter (PM). FVC provides very high energy efficiency about 30% that is twice more effective, low on noise and prevents unnecessary recharges.
